Rio Olympics silver medallist PV Sindhu hit the roadblock in the ongoing Denmark Open as she was shown the doors by Japan’s Sayaka Sato in three sets. The fifth seeded Indian lost the match after a gruelling fight with 13-21,23-21,18-21 in the second round. With her loss, the Indian campaign came to an end in the tournament.
Denmark Open is PV Sindhu’s first tournament after her success in the Rio Olympic Games where she won silver, the first ever in Indian badminton. She returned to the series after a two-month gap that was filled with felicitation programmes and ceremonies. She started her campaign on a winning note with an easy first round victory. But she went down in the second round to come out crashing. Other Indians in the fray, Ajay Jayaram, HS Pranoy also suffered losses.
