The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the domestic schedule for the season 2016-17. The Ranji trophy season will kickstart with group matches from October 6 and will culminate with finals scheduled for January 7 to 11.
The Board has decided to introduce the concept of neutral venues for the Ranji season for the first time. Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad will host just three matches in the season. The first match will see Odisha taking on Saurashtra in a Group B match from October 13 to 16 while Team Rajasthan will lock horns with Maharashtra from October 27 to 30. The final match in city will be Group A match between Punjab and UPCA from November 5-8.
Hyderabad has finished a disappointing 26th out of 27 team Ranji season last year and look to improve their show in the new season. But they had already dealt with a blow with their last-year Ranji skipper and batting mainstay G Hanuma Vihari and DB Ravi Teja shifting their loyalties to Andhra. HCA has recently roped in India’s former bowling coach Bharat Arun and they have brought in in talks with Tamil Nadu batsman Subramaniam Badrinath to lead the side.
