Vinesh recorded two back-to-back victories and going for a medal before her match was halted by the freak injury against Chinese player in the 48kg category. The Indian wrestler was leading 1-0 against the Chinese Yanan Sun before she was tackled down on the knee and conceding two points. The Chinese was declared winner by injury. Another women wrestler in the fray Sakshi Malik too made a quarterfinal exit after losing to Russias Valeria Koblova in the 58kg event.  Sakshi, who trailed 0-1 after the first period, made a comeback in the initial minutes of the second period to go 2-1 up at the Carioca Arena.
She, however, failed to maintain the lead as the Russian overpowered her with some incredible moves to take an unassailable 9-2 lead in the dying minutes. Sakshi is still in contention for bronze via Repechage if Valeria makes it to the final.
