The American swimmer Ryan Lochte, who was robbed in the streets of Rio along with his teammates two days earlier, was barred from leaving for his country by a Brazilian judge amid ongoing investigation into their robbery. He and his teammate James Feigen were asked to stay back and cooperate in the investigation.
Both the swimmers presented a contrasting tales of the incident and the Judge Keyla Blanc ordered the athletes’ passports to be seized after they gave conflicting versions of Sunday’s incident. But it was not clear whether the swimmers had already returned to their country or still in Rio de Janeiro.
Earlier, Lochte and Feigen said they were with fellow swimmers Gunnar Bentz and Jack Conger when their taxi was stopped by thieves posing as police. The athletes were returning to the Olympic Village after celebrating the end of the swimming competition at the Rio Games.
