Promoted as opener for the first time, Glenn Maxwell broke several records in guiding Australia to a 85-run victory over Sri Lanka in the first T20 match on Tuesday night.
Maxwell hit his maiden century (145 not out) in just 65 balls and guided Australia to a world record total of 263 runs for three wickets after they were asked to bat first. Maxwell and David Warner were off the blocks quickly as they scored runs with ease. Despite Warner falling for 28, Maxwell continued the onslaught from the other end. He reached his half-century in just 27 balls as Australia reached 100 in just 9.3 overs. Maxwell, whose previous best of 75, hit nine sixes and 14 boundaries in his innings. Chasing the mammoth total, Sri Lanka managed 178 runs in 20 overs Dinesh Chandimal hitting 43-ball 58.
