Suresh Raina was seen hitting the nets hard two days ahead of the India’s second ODI against New Zealand scheduled to be played on October 20 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. But in a dramatic turn of events, the team management announced that Raina will not be available for the second ODI as he is still recovering from the viral fever that forced him to sit out of the first ODI.
Raina was drafted into the Indian ODI team after a gap of one year after his successful outing in the Duleep Trophy. In the optional nets, Raina spent more than an hour in the batting nets and stuck the ball cleanly. But now his unavailability for the second match comes as a surprise. Kedar Jadav, who played in the first ODI was impressive with his two-wicket haul and that created a dilemma for the team management whether to sack him and give chance to Raina which would be unfair. In this backdrop, the management’s revelation about Raina cast doubts.
