The Great Britain’s women’s hockey team won their maiden gold medal by stunning the two-time defending champions The Netherlands 2-0 in penalties after drawing their full time game 3-3. The hero of the match is surely the Britain’s goalkeeper Maddie Hinch who saved the onslaught of the Netherlands girls many a time. With the win, the Britain women ended the Dutch’s quest for a third straight gold after winning them in Beijing and London Olympics. Thus the domination of the orange army came to an end at Rioon Saturday.
In the bronze medal match, Germany defeated New Zealand 2-1 to finish on the podium after a hard-fought battle.
