Belgium stun champions Netherlands; enter final

The overwhelming favourites in the Rio Games The Netherlands were stunned by Belgium in the semifinal. The World No.2 side was undone by the Belgium 1-3 and they now fight for a bronze medal. The Belgium, who qualified for the finals for the first time, will face Argentina in the summit clash. For the matter of fact, Argentina have also qualified for the Olympic finals for the first time thus guaranteeing a new champion.

Both teams started cautiously hence the first quarter turned out to be a goalless draw. But the second quarter was a different story with three goals being scored. Jerome Truyens gave Belgium an early lead through a penalty corner while their captain John-John Dohmen doubled the lead. Mink van Weerden reduced the margin with a goal lust the minutes before second half. But Florent van Aubel scored early in the fourth quarter to end the roads for the Dutch.
